Why are BLDC brushless motors becoming more popular?

Brushless motors (BLDCs) are becoming increasingly popular in our everyday applications, such as HVAC, electric vehicles, white goods and industrial applications. It helps electronic equipment to be more reliable and durable. The following is a typical BLDC power control system using an 8-bit microcontroller.

The advantages of the brushless motor can be summed up in three sentences:
  • · The first major advantage of brushless motors is efficiency. Because the brushless motor can rotate continuously under its maximum rotational force (torque). In contrast, brushed motors can only provide maximum torque at certain points of rotation. Although a brushless motor can provide the same torque as a brushless motor, a brushless motor requires greater magnetism, which means that a smaller size brushless motor can provide considerable power.
  •  Another advantage of the brushless motor is its controllability. The feedback system can be used to control the brushless motor to provide the required torque and speed. If the brushless motor is powered by a battery, this precise control reduces energy consumption and heat loss, helping to extend battery life.
  • Brushless motors without brushes provide high durability and low electrical noise. For brushed motors, the brush and commutator wear due to continuous moving contact, and sparks may be generated on contact. In particular, these sparks are usually generated when the brush passes through gaps in the commutator, and strong sparks can cause electrical noise. If electrical noise is to be considered in the motor design, brushless motors are preferable.
